Introduction of Surah Shams
The meaning of the word “Ash-Shams” itself can be translated into English as “The Sun,” this Surah begins with a severe oath taken by summoning the sun and several other significant elements of nature about the strength and seriousness of the message given therein. Surah Ash-Shams consists of 15 verses combined in the 91st chapter of the Holy Quran. This chapter brings strikingly into focus contrasts seen in light and darkness and between good and evil, all the while showing how much potential the human soul has to store either of the contrasting forces.
The Surah narrates the story of the people of Thamud who received divine guidance from Allah and then belled a desire not to take a bit of cognizance of it and decided to steer clear of it; it went to such an extent that as a result of this action of theirs, they got stern punishment and were destroyed. It is an excellent reminder for all of us that our conscious decisions should be to clean our souls to be on the right path for true success both in this life and the hereafter.
